Why do people read?
A simple question with a complicated answer.
A 2012 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, for example, showed 26 percent of Americans read for the educational value. 15 percent said they read because it gave them an escape from reality and 12 percent said they enjoyed how relaxing it was to read.
The survey is a few years old but now we’re curious. Why do our readers like to read?
Do you read books like “Sergio Oliva: Building the Ultimate Physique,” which teaches how to stay healthy and fit because you like to learn or do you read novels like “Protector,” whose protagonist is a teenage shapeshifter because you like to escape reality?
Or maybe you like to relax by reading fun blog posts, like “12 Things Every Book Lover Can Relate To”?
